Point Reyes National Seashore

Interpretation and Outreach Assistant  -  Point Reyes Station, CA

The intern will be an integral part of the Division of Interpretation during the busy summer season, providing park orientation, presenting interpretive programs, and furthering outreach to under-resourced communities. There will be two crucial parts to the intern’s work. One will be to promote diversity, relevancy, and inclusion through outreach and community engagement, especially for Latino Conservation Week in July. The second will be to promote citizen science through shorebird monitoring and surveys, leading up to hosting a World Migratory Bird Day event in the park. The intern will work with staff from the park’s Science division and partners in Point Blue Conservation Science.

  • The intern will help promote citizen science, birding, relevancy, diversity, and inclusion by creating Latino Conservation Week events in the park in mid-July.
  • Should the LHIP intern start earlier with an extension, the intern will be help host a World Migratory Bird Day event at the park.
  • The intern will gain valuable experience in informal and formal interpretation by assisting at the Bear Valley visitor center as needed (primarily weekends) providing park orientation, conducting roves, and delivering park programs. Weekdays will be for fieldwork.
  • The candidate will help roll out the bird resource publication started by the 2018 LHIP intern.
  • The intern will partner with last year’s LHIP intern, now working at the park’s cooperating association, Point Reyes National Seashore Association, for programs and events.
  • Depending on birding experience, the intern will shadow park staff for monitoring, education, and citizen science purposes.
