The primary deliverable this position will be tasked to provide is data for a planned museum exhibit on homesteading across the United States. The intern will research between one and three individual homesteader families of Latino descent and develop short biographies for them, with pictures where possible.

This will entail research into the Land Entry Case Files (homestead records), U.S. Census records, and other online and offline databases to identify individual homesteaders. It will also involve contacting relevant historical societies by phone or by email for photographs and relevant contextual material.

One or more of the intern's completed biographies will be published to the park's website, and, or, social media as examples of Latin-American homesteaders, and may be featured in the permanent park exhibit the Monument is intending to design for the National Homesteading Museum at Homestead National Monument of America.

The other deliverable this position will be tasked to complete will be the digitization and transcription of at least one oral history from the park's oral history collection. These oral histories have already been recorded, but need someone to listen to them and transcribe them. These may see use on the park website. The intern will also help with organizing historic photos and photos of park happenings, which may include some digitization work.

In addition to these primary projects, the intern will also assist in visitor reception in the Visitor Center, operate audio-visual equipment, assist visitors with questions concerning park resources and interpretive programs, maintain stocks of free publications, special event planning, assist the park's curatorial staff in processing, monitoring, and maintaining the park's museum collection, and clean and maintain historic furnishings in the Palmer-Epard Cabin and Freeman School. May-to-August is a period of high visitation at the Monument. Two of the park's major special events happen during this time period. The last Saturday of May is the Tallgrass Prairie Fiddle Festival and June 21-23 is the annual Homestead Days celebration that takes place in Beatrice and at the Monument.
